And he ordered the people, “Proceed and surround the city, with the picked troops marching ahead of the ark of the Lord.” (Joshua 6:7)
NorthWest Families for Life is sponsoring our 3rd Jericho March Sunday, August 23, 2:30 - 3:30 pm Advantage Health Care Clinic 203 E. Irving Park Rd. Wood Dale, IL There is great power in this. In April of 2011, a group of about 100 people of all faiths united for the closing ceremony of 40 Days for Life at Dr. Goyal’s “Dimensions” abortion facility. We took part in a Jericho March around the building praying, singing, and reading Scripture. By December of that same year, Dimensions closed its doors FOREVER! In May of 2013, another group of about 100 joined in a Jericho March at Forest View abortion mill in Des Plaines. By April of 2014, it was shut down. God is good! Now we feel called to implore God's mercy once again to protect babies, women and families from the violence of abortion in Wood Dale. We hope you will join us. Do you play the trumpet? We’d love to blow some horns like they did in Joshua’s time. Contact Laura: 847-651-4877 Never heard of a Jericho March before or wondered why it is done? Here are some answers from "Praise Jesus": 1. What is the Jericho March? - The Jericho March is one strategy of intercessory prayer from the Holy Spirit. It takes its name and inspiration from the Old Testament story of Joshua at Jericho (Joshua 1 to 6). This entire intercession pattern, including the prayer march around the city of Jericho had powerful spiritual and natural consequences. The obedience of Joshua to the Lord’s directions opened the way for God Himself to intervene and bring forth the victory He desired at that moment of history and in the future. Today, we can pray in the Jericho March and thus open the way for God to directly intervene and bring forth the victory of Jesus in our situation. 2. What Happens Spiritually During The Jericho March? - In our lives, we are continually surrounded and bombarded by a spiritual atmosphere of the world and the flesh and the devil. As a result, it is often difficult for people to be and do good. When we pray in the Jericho March, we are spiritually cutting off these dark clouds of evil that surround the people or places for whom we pray. At the same time, our prayer replaces the dark spiritual clouds with the Presence of Jesus and the bright Divine Cloud of all His Love and graces, mercy and blessings. We set our people and places apart unto God, so He can then work very directly in their lives. And we surround them with a Divine Shield, thus building a kind of spiritual wall or container around them in which to catch God’s Glory. In this way, we are opening the window to heaven above them and their lives and their places so the Lord can pour out His Mercy and blessings and miracles upon them. Adopt a Church to Deliver a Powerful Pro-Life Message to Pastors Have you been looking for a way to encourage your pastor in pro-life efforts? There is a grassroots campaign to get this book into every pastor's hand: Deliver Us from Abortion: Awakening the Church to End the Killing of America's Children. I was approached by a lovely young woman, Jessica, who is making this her mission. She has already delivered the book to 475 pastors in churches of all faiths in Illinois (mostly hand-delivered!). She asked if I would please invite every person to "adopt a church." All you need to do is donate just $13 to send a copy of this book to a pastor. Jessica will do the rest: the packaging, locating churches and names, printing letters, finding volunteers to deliver or delivering herself! You can read more about the campaign and Jessica's personal story of post-abortive healing here: www.deliverusfromabortion.com/grassroots. You can make a secure donation here: https://donate.onlineforlife.org/events/grassroots-illinois/e51088 If each of us gives just $13, we'll have every church in Dupage county covered (where Dr. Goyal operates his last 3 suburban clinics). Let's do it! News from vigils in Wood Dale: ** In July, we estimate that 79 babies were killed while their mothers did nothing to protect them. ** On one of the days, we met two different men who both claimed to be atheists. Perhaps they only said this to deter us from talking to them. Of course, it didn't work because you don't have to believe in God to be pro-life. Science has enough proof! In fact there are pro-life groups for atheists and agnostics. One is Pro-life Humanists (www.prolifehumanist.org). Another is Secular Pro-Life, www.secularprolife.org. ** There may have been a save one day. A young woman, Maria, came with her friend Geeja who is pregnant and "had questions." Although Geeja didn't speak English, I was able to give her Spanish brochures and encourage her, through Maria, that she can do it with God's help. They left without having an abortion that day and we pray they will grow in courage and faith in the Lord's plan for Geeja. ** A man named Juan drove his cousin, Cedilla, for an abortion. Juan told us he is Catholic and told her not to do it. Yet, there he was driving her. This is actually more common than you may think. People think they are being a good friend by driving, without realizing that they are now accomplices to murder. Would they drive the getaway car in a bank robbery? ** We believe another couple chose life on a Tuesday. The couple sat in their car for about 20 minutes talking and looking at the prayer warriors signs of a crying baby saying "Help!" Maybe that, with the power of prayer, was the sign from God they needed to turn away from killing. They left, but would not stop to talk. ** One way that we feel especially blessed is in our ministry to the post-abortive women. Last Tuesday, we were able to give a Project Rachel brochure to 3 of the 4 women who had abortions that day. Again, one of those Project Rachels was given to a friend who says she pro-life yet still brought her friend to kill her child. ** The weather is beautiful for outdoor prayer! Join us any Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday for any length of time between 6:30 am - 11:00 am. Your presence makes a difference to the women, to the men, to those who pass by. We believe POC stands for “Product of Conception,” which is how abortion clinics refer to babies. This job may require him to reassemble the aborted babies’ precious bodies to make sure no parts were left inside the mother. - Marcelino and Omar: drivers of the "Medical Waste" truck that comes to the clinic every Tuesday morning. * Starred have a copy of the Abby Johnson letter to clinic workers. “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive. (1 Corinthians 10:23)
I'm sure I'm not the only one still reeling from the Supreme Court Decision last Friday which stripped away states' rights to decide on the issue of same-sex unions, making same-sex "marriage" legal in all 50 states. It is ironic that this decision is being touted as "liberty" and "freedom." Sadly, it will have exactly the opposite effect on our country. The Scripture above explains that liberty is not merely an individual preference or desire, nor an end to itself, but it is to be used for the common good. If you need help explaining how this decision will affect many aspects of our daily life and go against the common good, get a detailed description of the far-reaching consequences in Massachusetts since legalization in 2003. For example, "People can now get fired from their job for expressing religious objections to same-sex 'marriage.'" "Businesses are often 'tested' for tolerance by homosexual activists... who go into restaurants or bars and publicly kiss and fondle each other to test whether the establishment demonstrates sufficient 'equality.'" "Every year more state money goes to deal with the high incidence of homosexual domestic violence." To read more effects from Massachusetts: www.massresistance.org/docs/marriage/effects_of_ssm_2012/index.html This will also have consequences to the pro-life community. With more "marriages" that cannot produce their own children, there will be a larger market for children; Thus, turning a child into a commodity to be obtained instead of a precious gift from God. Many of these couples will turn to in vitro fertilization which comes at great cost to Life. However, as a people of hope, we know God has the final decision. Great heroes are born from great conflicts. For more words of encouragement from the gifted writer David E. Smith of Illinois Family Institute, read "Don't Lose Heart" at www.illinoisfamily.org/articles. As with the Roe v. Wade decision 42 years ago, we have never given up fighting for truth and the protection of children. And we never will! IMPORTANT UPDATE to 4th of July Parade Information: The Arlington Heights group will join with NorthWest Families for Life in the Palatine Parade. Since both marches are on the same day this year, the Arlington Heights Life group has decided to change plans and march with us in Palatine to create a large joyful group! Saturday, July 4, 10:15 am - March under the banner of Life in the Palatine 4th of July Parade Join us to share our respect for all LIFE and dedication to liberty for all as endowed by God our Creator. Parades are an excellent way to bear witness to the community and inspire others to be emboldened in their pro-life beliefs. It provides a spirit of unity. * Meet at 10:15 am (parade starts at 11:00 am) at spot #70 lined up on Wood St. just east of Quentin. * You can park in the Commuter Parking Deck at Colfax and Smith St. Then cross the tracks and head west on Wood to our line-up area. * Look for mylar balloons with "It's a Boy" and "It's a Girl!" We are 2 spots behind the Little Sisters of the Poor :-) * Limited number of T-shirts proclaiming "Without LIFE, Liberty is Meaningless" will be provided free that day on a first come basis, but if you marched with us before, please wear your shirt or feel free to wear another pro-life t-shirt. * We will have signs for you to hold with positive pro-life messages. * Contact Maria: [email protected] 847-705-9593 News from vigils in Wood Dale: ** In June, we estimate that 61 women made the "choice" to have their babies murdered at Advantage Health Care in Wood Dale. ** One father spent a long time talking to one of our counselors while his girlfriend was inside the clinic killing his child. Rodrigo said he is Catholic and knew he would have to "face the consequences for this before God at death." Despite recognizing the sin he was helping commit, he felt powerless to protect his child. This is sadly very common among the men we meet. Some are indifferent, but some wish they could do something but don't know how. We need to talk to our young men and boys so that they will become strong men who will respect their own sexuality and courageously respect the women in their lives as well. One tool you can provide to the young men in your life is an excellent booklet entitled "Pure Manhood" by Jason Evert. It will help them see sexuality in a new light and give them the spiritual tools they need to stay pure. www.shop.catholic.com/pure-manhood-set.html ** There was an unexpected blessing one day when a young very pregnant woman pulled into the clinic lot and asked if she could pray with us. After she moved her car :-), she joined us in prayer and shared her beautiful story of redemptive love that brought her there. She had had an abortion years before and gone down the path of drinking and self-hatred that too many post-abortive women do. Blessedly, a friend invited her repeatedly to a prayer group and one day she finally accepted. That was the beginning of God's glorious healing power in her life and that of her boyfriend. Today they are married, devoted to the Lord, and expecting a child in July. Please offer a prayer of thanksgiving for God's amazing grace and the strength of Carla to share her story. In fact, she was even inspired that day to call out with words of hope and love to a woman leaving the clinic after an abortion. Praise God! ** There were more blessings on Saturday, June 20, when 2 women chose LIFE! ** There was a heartwarming moment when a boy of about 13 came walking down the sidewalk toward our group. He stopped to ask if we were accepting donations. I asked him what he knew about abortion and he said, "It gets rid of a baby." I gently corrected, "It kills a baby." His face grew serious as he shook his head. He readily accepted a pro-life newspaper and even started reading it as he continued on his way home. There is much hope for our future as the youth in our country become more and more pro-life. ** The weather is beautiful for outdoor prayer! "He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces. He was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted." Isaiah 53:3-4
As we stand here on the edge of Holy Week, we are faced with the suffering and death of Jesus. Although it is difficult to view, I feel it is important this week to meditate on the pain our Lord endured out of love for us. Perhaps you can watch a movie, view art depicting the crucifixion, or attend a Stations of the Cross service, like the one we are hosting this Friday, April 3 at 10:00 am at the abortion clinic in Wood Dale (Advantage Health Care, 203 E. Irving Park Rd. See below for more details and other locations). By looking into the pain-filled face of Jesus, we come to understand the depth of His sacrifice and unceasing love for all humankind. This truth fills us with a renewed sense of determination to love and serve Him all the more every day. It reveals what we really mean when we say "Jesus died for us." In a similar way, when the truth of abortion is revealed through graphic pictures, it is our prayer that the discomfort people feel at the sight of dismembered babies will fill them, and us, with a renewed sense of purpose. By showing the horror of what words like "terminate a pregnancy" really mean, we become convicted to keep working for Life until the day this abomination is no more. Then, just as Jesus triumphed over death in the Resurrection, He will trample over the culture of death that perpetuates abortion. Wishing you and your families a blessed and happy Easter! News from vigils in Wood Dale: ** During the month of March, we estimate that at least 86 babies were ripped from their mothers' wombs and discarded like trash at Advantage Health Care in Wood Dale. ** It has been very difficult to reach clients in these cold months. Many just rush in. However, we have been able to hand out some Project Rachel brochures to clients as they leave. It is our prayer that they will seek forgiveness and never commit another abortion, especially in light of the fact that of the over 1 million abortions in the US every year, 45% are repeat abortions. www.lifenews.com/2012/10/21/did-you-know-45-percent-of-abortions-are-repeat-abortions ** Today we saw two couples in their late 30's at the clinic. In both cases, the husband dropped off the wife and then returned hours later to pick her up with their living children in the back seat. The one car had two boys in the back who looked about 11 and 13. The boys looked at me, confused by my offer to their mother for free post-abortive counseling. The other couple had one boy in the back aged about 10, who was not aware that his parents had just killed his sister or brother. The pain of abortion is not limited to the baby, the mother, or the father; it extends to the entire family and especially the siblings. There is support for siblings of aborted children: https://survivingsibling.wordpress.com/ ** Gratefully, God has blessed us with at least 4 women saved from abortion that we know of in March! One husband left telling prayer warriors that "She changed her mind." A young couple in their 20's went in early in the morning around 6:30 am but came out as the abortionist arrived almost 2 hours later. They spent a long time talking in the car but then drove off without having the abortion. ** A young Hispanic mother named Elsa arrived for an abortion on a busy Saturday. Thankfully a group from Mission San Juan Diego was there to speak to her in Spanish about Life. Elsa has three children already and her husband is threatening to leave her. Although she is scared, she chose life for her fourth child! Please keep her in your prayers that she will reach out to a crisis pregnancy center to walk alongside her during this difficult time. ** The Wood Dale employee that we mentioned last month has told us she found another job and is leaving! God answers prayers. Thank you for all your concern for her. Please continue to pray for a smooth transition and God's healing power to enter her life. We also have not seen Jocelyn (clerk who started last May) in several months. Praise God! ** We still need prayer warriors for Saturdays at Wood Dale! You saw above how God works through you when you take the leap of faith and show up. Will you be part of the next life saved in Wood Dale? All it takes is 2 people to stand together in prayer; you don't need any signs or any special training in counseling. She spoke at length with a sidewalk counselor there. You can print a copy of the letter here: www.attwn.org/wp-content/themes/attwn-child/images/attwn-onepage-lightbackground.pdf. “However, this kind of demon goes away only by prayer and fasting.” Matthew 17:21
Jesus told his disciples this when they questioned why they had been unable to cast out a demon from a young boy. Abortion is a demon in our country. Perhaps this is one that can only be driven out by prayer and fasting. That is the idea behind two of the aspects of 40 Days for Life. Fasting is when we humbly deny ourselves something of the flesh to glorify God and go deeper in our prayer life. Fasting is a way to demonstrate to God and to ourselves that we are serious about our relationship with Him. Anything you can temporarily give up (chocolate, TV, radio, Facebook, snacks, coffee, etc. More ideas can be found at www.nicksenger.com/csc/101-practical-fasting-ideas-for-lent) can be considered a fast. Fasting is not intended to punish the flesh, but to focus on God as a form of physical prayer. Fasting strengthens us for the Christian lifestyle in which we strive to put God and others before our own wants. If we are able to say, “Yes!” to God in small things like not eating cookies, it will make it easier to say, “Yes!” when the situation is much bigger. Sometimes it can be hard to maintain a fast. We may find ourselves thinking, “Will it really matter to God if I eat this one cookie? Can I really be saving a baby by turning off the TV?” In these instances it may be helpful to take that “hunger” or desire for the object of our fasting and satisfy it with prayer. It is also important to remember that your fasting and any suffering you endure because of it is not limited to you. Your sacrifice is united not only with millions of others around the world as a sign of repentance to God, but it is also united with the suffering of our Lord Jesus Christ who gave His very life for us, so He could save us from our sins by rising triumphantly on Easter! - 40 Days for Life continues through March 29 – 119 babies saved so far! See “Upcoming Events” below to find out more about this mission which has had amazing results in converting abortion workers, closing abortion mills, and saving babies. www.40daysforLife.com - Although we are not an official "40 Days for Life" site at Wood Dale, we would be so grateful if you would take time this Lent to join us in prayer at Advantage Health Center on a Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday from 6:30 am - 11:00 am; we are desperately in need of more prayer support on Saturday. Please see below for details. News from vigils in Wood Dale: ** During the month of February, we estimate that 90 women made a "choice" that they could never un-do and had the child growing inside them killed at Advantage Health Care in Wood Dale. ** One day we spoke to a young Muslim couple who were leaving the clinic undecided about having an abortion. The wife told us that it was "too soon" to be having a baby since she had a baby at home. I encouraged her to think and pray about it and gave her a brochure. You can see it here: http://plam.org/Products/whfynational.pdf Then I told her it is a girl. Her face lit up and she responded, "Really?" Only God knows for sure, but I hope that the reality that this is a baby and not a problem to be eliminated will soften her heart. ** A Buddhist couple could not understand why were there praying on the day they killed their child, because they said it is acceptable in their religion. When you meet people who have a faith where abortion is acceptable or no faith at all, you can find loads of information from groups like "Secular Pro-Life" (www.secularprolife.org) or "Pro-life Humanists" (www.prolifehumanists.org). Of course, you can also stress the very important fact that abortion harms women. For a list of negative effects: www.familyandlife.org/resources/faq/effects-abortion. ** There is reason to rejoice, though, as we believe there may have been as many as 5 women saved from abortion in February! One Hispanic couple left telling the counselor, "We're not doing it." Another couple with a Rosary hanging from their rearview mirror left after only 20 minutes. A black couple was there last Saturday when there were an estimated 20 abortions at Wood Dale. They did not go through with it and were glad to receive information about the pro-life crisis pregnancy center down the street, Care Net www.care-net.org. ** An employee at the clinic is considering leaving. I'd like to leave her name anonymous for now because of the situation, but I can tell you that she said she would be calling the "And Then There Were None" help-line TODAY! When she first started talking to our early morning counselor, she told him she "felt bad" working there. By the next week, she said she "felt terrible." I told her today that we would be praying for her to have courage and trust in God, so let's all get praying! ** We need prayer warriors for Saturdays at Wood Dale! There have been very few prayer warriors on Saturdays, which is particularly sad because Saturday is the day that most abortions are committed. All it takes is 2 people to stand together in prayer; you don't need any signs or any special training in counseling - Your prayerful presence has power, especially in these cold days. However if you would like resources, there is a vigil kit housed near the clinic where you can get signs, pamphlets to hand out, and prayer books. Just contact us for where to pick it up. "Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Lovingkindness and truth go before You. How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! O Lord, they walk in the light of Your countenance. In Your name they rejoice all the day." Psalms 89: 14-16
Thank you to each one of you who came out to NorthWest Families March for Life in Palatine a few weeks ago. It was a blessing to unite with over 1000 of you to bring the message "Let Every Life Shine" to the streets. And shine we did! A 16 year old girl who happened to be passing by as we marched noticed 3 things: 1. She knew right away why we were marching, so all of those beautiful signs, whether handmade or printed, spoke loud and clear. 2. She was amazed at how many people were there. So if you were wondering if it mattered whether or not you showed up, let me assure you that each person, from those in wheelchairs to the babies in arms, made an impact on the passers-by. 3. Finally, she remarked at how happy everyone looked! The Scripture above speaks to that joy. With God's Lovingkindness and truth walking before us, we walked with the light of God shining through us. You often hear about Christian joy. That is exactly what we showed to the public that day. Now Christian joy doesn't mean that you will be happy all the time or never experience struggles and grief. It means that even in the struggles and grief we will not lash out in anger or desperation, but instead let God's Lovingkindness shine through us and "rejoice all the day." Thank you again to all the participants, volunteers, police, speakers, clergy, musicians, and especially the 8 councils of Knights of Columbus and Ladies Auxiliary who made the reception even better than last year! - Many of you have asked for a recording of the testimony of the post-abortive man, Paul, who spoke so heartrendingly of the pain from his involvement in abortion. No, abortion is not just "a woman's issue." You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNXuHPqtnR8 - That testimony brought an unexpected blessing for Joe and Ann Scheidler. They listened to Paul talk about how the second time he and his then-girlfriend (now wife) became pregnant, instead of aborting again they saw an ad for pregnancy help and chose life. Joe Scheidler put that ad there! God is so good to show Joe the fruits of his labor almost 40 years later! Proof that nothing you do for God is ever in vain, even if you do not see the results. You can post them at our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/NorthWestFamiliesforLife News from vigils in Wood Dale: ** During the month of January, we estimate that 114 living children were killed at Advantage Health Care in Wood Dale. ** However, it appears that there may have been 3 saves on the last Saturday in December! A woman drove out of the clinic and told the prayer warriors that she was keeping her baby. Another couple came out to their car to talk before the doctor arrived and then left. Finally, just after the abortionist arrived another couple ran out of the clinic and drove off. We pray that all three have put their trust in God and will let Him guide the plan for their child's life. ** Sadly, a father, Hakim, could do nothing to save his child. He spent a long time talking to one of our counselors. Hakim told her that this would be their 4th child and since they just bought a home, they could not afford another child. Laura told him of all the resources available and reminded him that this 4th one is still his child and his responsibility to care for and protect. She suggested adoption as a loving alternative, but Hakim insisted that adoption would be just as bad as abortion. Laura pointed out that in abortion you are giving a child a death sentence. This seemed to move him to tears and he texted his girlfriend, but it was too late. Pray for this entire family who will now suffer the loss of this child. ** On another day, Laura met Connie who came with her husband to bring their daughter (in her 20's) for an abortion. Connie seemed to have a need to talk to our prayer warriors. As it would later be revealed, this was because of her own past abortion experience. Connie came from the Philippines to go to college and make a better life for brothers and sisters, but it was at the expense of her first child's life. Now Connie was trying to explain why she had brought her own daughter to make the same mistake by claiming that life for the child would be too hard without a father. Connie is falling victim to the argument about quality of life. She told Laura that we were judging when in actuality all we do is give facts about fetal development, post-abortive syndrome, and pregnancy resources. Connie could not comprehend that she is the one passing judgment about what the child's life will be like and deciding that the baby should not be allowed to live. She is ignoring that it is not the quality of life but the sanctity of life that makes us human. You can read an interesting article about quality vs. sanctity of life here: www.catholicity.com/commentary/ckennedy/08800.html ** Reminder: NorthWest Families for Life is now facilitating vigils on all 3 of the days of the week that the Wood Dale abortion mill is open - Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 6:30 – 11:00 am. We need YOU to join us now that we are spread among 3 days. Could you come to Wood Dale once a month even for one hour on one of the three days? As we saw at the now-closed Forest View mill, victory is always within reach. Be a part of God’s victory over death in Wood Dale. Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him (Peter), and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:31
This is one of my favorite Bible stories. Peter and the apostles are in a boat. They see Jesus walking on the stormy sea and, in awe, Peter calls out, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” (Matthew 14:28) And indeed Jesus does call out, “Come!” How often are we like Peter saying to God, “If you’re really there, God, then show me!” How many times in our lives do we feel Jesus calling out to us to come walk with Him in faith? We yearn for a sign of God’s presence in our lives, and yet sometimes when he does call us “out of the boat,” we are reluctant to go. We fear the storm. Like Peter, we take our eyes off of our Lord. We worry about what could happen to us if we give ourselves completely over to God’s will. What will people say if you tell them of your pro-life stance? What will happen if you pray outside an abortion mill? The “winds” of fear can whip us into staying inside the boat like the other apostles did. Decide to “get out of the boat” today. And if things get tough, cry out with Peter, “Lord, save me!” Let Jesus reach out to you in whatever challenges face you today. Allow Him to take a firm hold of your hand. Be filled with the strength of the Holy Spirit, and be brave enough to “get out of the boat.” You’ll be amazed at what you and God can do. Then you’ll wonder why you ever doubted! **40 Days for Life begins a week from Wednesday on Sept. 24. If you have never participated in a campaign before, this is the time to “get out of the boat” and walk in faith. You can participate by praying and fasting daily for these 40 days. However, it would be a real blessing to also cover an hour of prayer at a vigil at one of the Chicago-land sites, Chicago, Glen Ellyn, Downers Grove, and Aurora. Sign up for an hour at www.40DaysforLife.com. You will not be asked to counsel, simply stand in prayer. Yet, your impact is nothing simple. Who knows who will drive by, see you standing there praying for them, and change their mind. ** 40 Days has remodeled their website, so even if you have been registered in previous campaigns, you will need to register again. And please do, then you will receive 40 days of inspirational email updates throughout the campaign and find out about lives changed! Sign up at www.40DaysforLife.com . News from vigils in Wood Dale: ** On Saturday, August 23, a prayer warrior made her way to the clinic at 7:00 am. For two hours, she prayed, sang, and carried signs offering free help while a man in the parking lot sat in his car. Finally, at 9:00 a young woman exited the clinic and told her that she “couldn’t go through with it.” The woman, Molly, has a two year old daughter with Chris (man in the car). They had aborted their 2nd child a year ago and were now here to kill their 3rd. Molly and Chris were grateful to the prayer warrior for all of the information and support she offered. She told them that we would all be praying for them, so let’s get to it! Molly would like to go to college and get married to Chris. Please pray that this choice for life will bring abundant blessings to this family. This shows what one person stepping out in faith can do! Thank you, Claudia. ** On Thursday, August 28, we estimate that TWO women failed to protect the lives entrusted to their care. ** A young man came out to smoke. I told him that his baby has a heartbeat and he responded, “I know.” Our culture has become so desensitized to the sanctity of life that even the knowledge that his child has a beating heart could not change this man’s mind. ** On Thursday, September 4, we estimate that SIX babies died at a business disguised as a “health” clinic. ** Four of the six women took a Project Rachel brochure from us afterwards. They so often just drive by with their heads down, but thankfully, that day almost all of the women saw that we wanted nothing else but to offer them hope and healing. We pray that they will read the brochure and seek forgiveness. ** On Thursday, September 11, NO babies were killed or women wounded at Advantage Health Care. ** The only people at the clinic that day were two employees (both office administrators, Nancy and Marisela) and us prayer warriors! We do not know why it was not open for killing business on this Thursday. Since we began praying here in late April, there has never been a Thursday they were closed. In fact, Advantage had extended their days open to include Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Could business be dropping off? Maybe they are finding it is not profitable to be open all 4 days without enough business. Only God knows! Praise Him that no babies died there that day! Pray for more days like this one. “Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interest of others.” (Philippians 2:4)
This Bible verse is a powerful tool when we are faced with the argument, “Well, I would never have an abortion, but who am I to tell others what to do?” or “This is none of your business.” Every Christian is called by God to be His hands and feet in the world and one way we do this is by looking out for and protecting the most vulnerable in society. The vulnerable unborn cannot speak for themselves. The women seeking abortions often believe they have no other choice, making them vulnerable to the “easy” solution of abortion. The fathers of these children may even be vulnerable as they are told by the culture that they have no say; it is a woman’s choice and right. Hopefully, you won’t be faced with this argument, but if you are, ask if that person donates to any charities that help vulnerable people and explain that this is no different. Eric Scheidler, executive director of the Pro-Life Action League (http://prolifeaction.org/about/eric.php), encourages pro-lifers to find common ground with a person in opposition and maybe this will be the fertilizer to plant a seed! News from the last two Thursday vigils in Wood Dale: ** On Thursday, August 7, we estimate that FIVE children were killed at Advantage Health Care in Wood Dale. ** A car arrived with one man (late 20’s), two young women (20’s), and a very cute dog. The two women went inside surrounded by the two ICAT escorts. They did not even have a chance to hear about the free help available at CareNet, just one block west of the abortion mill. However, the man, Carl, stayed outside with the dog. During this time I made several attempts at conversation. I was surprised at how misinformed and steeped in lies this man was. After several hours during which time I offered help to Carl, encouraged him to help the young woman, and begged him to take a Project Rachel brochure for her counseling after the abortion, he told me that he “knew” we would just make fun of the women and call them “murderers.” I was really shocked that he could think this after watching us interact with love and respect with everyone there that morning, including the ICAT escorts. Although I did not get to see the young woman come out after her abortion, I did finally manage to get the girl’s female friend to take a Project Rachel brochure despite Carl’s objections. This made it very clear to me that we need to be consciously aware of making every effort to be the loving face of God at the clinics. Only with God’s love shining through can we overcome these false judgments people make about “those radical anti-abortion folks.” Yes, we are radical – radically committed to spreading the truth about God’s love, hope, and forgiveness. ** On Thursday, August 14, we estimate that THREE women chose to end the life of their own child. ** An Asian couple in their 20’s came out of the clinic around 8:00 am before the doctor arrived. They were visibly upset and walked out past the ICAT escorts to the sidewalk, allowing us the opportunity to approach them. They were reluctant to talk but the woman appeared very sad. She took the brochure offering free help but then the ICAT escorts quickly called them back to the clinic where the young girl started crying. The escorts ushered her back into the clinic. Please pray for the conversion of the ICAT escorts and for the healing of this young couple. ** We thought there might have been a save that day. Birdianna and Alma are cousins in their early 20’s. Alma has an 18 month old son and does not feel ready to have another child. They pulled into the clinic around 9:30. I happened to be right at the entrance as they pulled in and, since the ICAT escorts leave at 8:15, I was able to get them to stop and chat. They were very interested in the free services offered by CareNet and took all the information I gave, but decided they still wanted to “check out” the clinic. They parked and walked in with Alma’s precious son in her arms. About 1 minute later they exited telling me that the clinic did not allow children. Birdianna looked at me and I said, “You know why, right?” She nodded and affirmed to Alma that she would help her through this pregnancy. ** I texted them later and learned that Alma was not actually pregnant after all. Our prayer now is that this experience will awaken in Alma a desire to treat her body with respect. Another positive outcome is that these women have seen the abortion business for what it is, anti-child, and they now know of the vast amount of authentically helpful resources for women in need. ** On Thursday, August 21, we estimate that THREE unique, unrepeatable human babies were lost. ** One man named Mitch dropped off a young woman in her 20’s and then sat in his parked car in the lot. Our sidewalk counselors pleaded with him to save the life of his child. He told them that he has a child with another woman and this one is “just a fetus.” This dehumanization of humans is sadly nothing new. It happened with slavery, the Holocaust, and more. To read an interesting article that may help when you are faced with these types of arguments: http://blog.abolishhumanabortion.com/2012/06/dehumanization-101.html Pray for These Wood Dale Employees - Nancy: Office manager and post-abortive woman - Dr. Goyal: owner and operator of Wood Dale and 3 other suburban and 1 Chicago abortion mill - *Marisela: Listed as “Medical Records,” She has been sarcastic to us in the past, often sent out to bring unsure women back in. - Eugene: Orderly/POC. We believe POC stands for “Product of Conception,” which is how abortion clinics refer to babies. This job may require him to reassemble the aborted babies’ precious bodies to make sure no parts were left inside the mother. - *Jocelyn: works behind the front desk. "It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1
In the last update we heard from a letter of Paul to the Thessalonians. This passage is from another one of Paul’s letters to an early Christian community, but this time instead of praising all they have done, Paul is trying to settle disputes in the troubled Christian community in Galatia. Members were disagreeing about whether or not they should still be following all of the old Jewish laws. Paul is trying to explain that Christ brought about freedom from the old ways when the Jewish people were in slavery. We too live in times where obeying laws is causing confusion and dissent. Laws created by man are attempting to coerce people into denying their religious beliefs. Specifically, there are many current threats to our religious liberty in areas directly affecting us as pro-lifers. To read about some of these threats: http://www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/religious-liberty/current-threats-to-religious-liberty.cfm. Hobby Lobby is awaiting a decision in the next week from the Supreme Court about whether or not they will be forced to provide abortion-inducing drug insurance coverage to their employees which violates their religious beliefs. As we near the celebration of America’s independence, it is a fitting time to remember that God is the author of our freedom and He demands that we “keep standing firm” against those who try to take that freedom away. In response to this demand, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is calling for a 3rd Fortnight for Freedom, June 21 – July 4, a two week time of prayer, fasting, and action for religious liberty. Even if you are not a Catholic, you are invited to join in unity for these two weeks, beginning this Saturday, and spend some extra time in prayer for our country, founded as one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice FOR ALL. To read more and find prayer resources for the Fortnight: http://www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/religious-liberty/fortnight-for-freedom/index.cfm VIGIL OPPORTUNITIES FOR THIS WEEK Here are the vigil times for the remaining FOUR suburban abortion mills owned and operated by abortionist Vinod Goyal (also owns one in Chicago). Please let us know if there are any corrections: Downers Grove (Access Health, 1700 75th St.) - Mondays, 7:00 am – 8:30 am - Thursdays and Fridays, 7:00- 8:00 am - Saturdays, 5:30 am – 11:00 am Hinsdale (ACU, 736 N. York Rd.) - Tuesdays, 7:15 am – 8:30 am Glen Ellyn (Aanchor Medical, 186 Roosevelt Rd.) - Wednesdays, 8:00 am – 10:00 am - Saturdays, 8:00 am – 10:00 am Wood Dale (Advantage, 203 E. Irving Park Rd.) - Every 3rd Wednesday, 6:30 am – 8:30 am (Contact Frank: [email protected] ) - Thursdays, 7:00 am – 1:00 pm with NorthWest Families for Life * Important: God is blessing our efforts, and so Illinois Choice Action Team (ICAT) has been sending escorts to Wood Dale to try to stop counselors from offering women a real choice. If you encounter these escorts, please be kind and courteous, but do not engage. Stay in prayer. - Fridays, 7:00 am – 1:00 pm (Contact Sandy: [email protected] ) - Saturdays, contact Claudia: [email protected] News from the last three Thursday vigils at Advantage in Wood Dale: ** On Thursday, May 29, we estimate that FOUR children’s beating hearts were stopped. ** A couple in their early 20’s, Jose and Carla, were at the clinic to get the “Plan B” drug. They have a 1 year old at home and were worried that they might be pregnant again so soon. They listened as Laura explained that “Plan B” can kill a baby by preventing the fertilized egg from implanting. Laura also told them about CareNet, the nearby pregnancy resource center. Carla was very interested. You can read more about Plan B here: http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/worlds-top-authority-on-morning-after-pill-says-women-must-be-told-it-may-c It is currently in debate, however, the key to consider is that its use is on the rise, because Plan B doesn’t get at the heart of the real problem - our culture’s casual view of the sacredness of sexual intimacy. ** On Thursday, June 5, we estimate that SEVEN women chose to end the fragile life that had been entrusted to their care. ** We met a man named Nate who was “just the driver” for a young woman in her 20’s. He has a child whom he is very proud of, but couldn’t make the connection that he is helping someone else kill their child. Laura even gave him the scenario that if he saw someone beating a child, he would stop it and Nate agreed. However, he said he “didn’t want to think about it” when Laura described what happens to a baby during an abortion. Please pray for Nate’s mind to be opened and the woman he brought to find healing. ** On Thursday, June 12, we estimate that FOUR babies’ lives were ended before they had barely begun. ** One couple in their late 20’s came out after the abortion and the woman looked devastated. When I approached her with a rose and a Project Rachel brochure, the man became extremely angry and yelled at me. The woman, though, was looking at me with such desperate eyes that I continued to hold out the information for her. This made the man even angrier and he threw a pop can at me. Don’t worry, I ducked, but sadly, the woman was not able to break free from his anger to reach out for the hope I was offering. One of our prayer warriors commented that this is a horrible form of abuse that men too often impose on women. Please pray that men will accept the role of protector of the family and women will find strength through God to resist this type of pressure. ** A beautiful young woman named Yulesis came to Advantage for an ultra-sound of her 8 week old baby. She came alone and told me that her husband had lost his job; she doesn’t work, so they don’t have any insurance. This is why her doctor at Alexian Brothers sent her to Advantage, because they offer reduced rate ultrasounds. We were shocked to hear that a doctor at a Catholic Hospital is referring patients to an abortion clinic. One of our group contacted Alexian. Yulesis began tearing up when I told her Advantage is an abortion clinic, but regained her smile when I offered her a pair of blue booties… I have a feeling it’s a boy and she told me that is what her husband, an engineer, is hoping for! Please pray for her husband to find work soon and for Yulesis to seek care from a doctor who respects life. She left with a hug and information for CareNet. Pray for These Wood Dale Employees - Nancy: Office manager and post-abortive woman - Dr. So Ananias departed and entered the house, and after laying his hands on him said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 9:17
Saul mercilessly persecuted the early Christians. He believed that he was justified in doing so. The Jewish Christians were acknowledging a man as the Messiah who had endured one of the most shameful type of deaths. It simply couldn’t be true, he thought. Saul believed this was heresy, based on all he had long been taught to believe, and that he needed to “right” this wrongful belief, sometimes by killing. However, God had great plans for Saul. He knocked him off his horse and blinded him. Then God sent Ananias who bravely went to Saul to help him regain his sight and send Saul, now Paul, on a path of spreading the Good News. There is a strong parallel between Saul and those who work at the abortion clinics. Many employees believe that what they are doing is right and indeed “helpful” to women. They have been told for a long time that this is a woman’s right. Many of the women who work in the clinics are post-abortive themselves and seek to justify their own “right” by helping others make the same choice they did. They are blind to the truth that abortion harms not only tiny innocent human children, but also the women and men involved in the abortion. They are blind to God’s plan for Life. They are also often blind to those of us who stand outside the clinic offering love and acceptance, never judgment. That is why we stand at the clinics. God sends us, like He sent Ananias, so that they may regain their sight and “be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Just like Saul, it is our prayer that these workers will become the strongest voices for LIFE! Please pray for the employees and abortionists. See below for news of employees quitting! News about Forest View’s Closure We have gotten results back from a FOIA report and also spoken to one of the former Forest View employees and found out the following: 1. Forest View will NOT be reopening as an abortion clinic. 2. The building is still owned by abortionist Vinod Goyal who will be remodeling and opening a cosmetic center called Apollo. They will provide services like laser hair removal, acne treatment, chemical peels, etc. 3. Carmen, the cashier from Forest View, has quit! Praise God! 4. Samantha, the employee who was one of the first to speak with us when we began praying at Forest View 4 years ago this month, has quit! Praise God! 5. Jessica, a newer employee whom I spoke to a few weeks ago at Wood Dale, would like to leave her job too. She has an Abby Johnson letter. Please pray for her specifically. 6. We do not have a definitive reason for Forest View’s closure; however, if it had been a profitable abortion clinic, Goyal would most likely not be going through the expense and trouble of changing it. Of course, there is one other possibility; could Dr. Goyal be hearing the call of God? All we know for certain is that no one is beyond God’s reach, just ask Saul. Pray! VIGIL OPPORTUNITIES FOR THIS WEEK With the closure of Forest View, the days and times of abortions, and therefore vigils, at some of Dr. Goyal’s 4 suburban clinics are changing. Here are the vigil times. If you encounter these escorts, please be kind and courteous, but do not engage. Stay in prayer. - Fridays, 7:00 am – 1:00 pm - Saturdays, TBD. We had interest in a Saturday Forest View vigil and will now be focusing on Wood Dale. If you already responded that you are interested in Saturday vigils, we will get back to you. If you are interested but have not yet responded, let us know! Thanks! News from the last threeThursday vigils: ** On Thursday, April 10, we estimate that EIGHT children were killed at Forest View Medical Center. ** This was just 2 days before Forest View officially closed its doors forever and God blessed us with one last save at Forest View! A young woman in her early 20’s, Leslie, came with her friend Josie for an RU486 abortion (read about this abortion-causing drug: http://www.nrlc.org/abortion/ru486/). One of the sidewalk counselors, Anna Marie, offered her a free ultrasound and stressed that she should take more time to think about this crucial decision. Leslie still went into Forest View. However, Anna Marie had asked for her cell number and began texting her while she was inside. Hours later a tearful Leslie came out and said she didn’t go through with it! Glory be to God! Last we heard, Anna Marie was going to accompany her to the Women’s Center for an ultrasound. ** On Thursday, April 24, our first vigil at Wood Dale, we estimate that FOUR women chose to end the life of their own child. ** This is the day that I found out Samantha is quitting. She was outside and happily told me, “Two weeks!” explaining that she had given her two-weeks notice. I told her that God loves her and we’d be praying for her to find the right job. She gave me a big smile! ** On Thursday, May 1, we estimate that FOUR babies died at the hands of “doctor.” ** A family, mom, dad, and two children, arrived around 10:00. This is late for an abortion as most are in by 7:30 am. When I approached the mother, Paola, she was very open to talking to me. It turns out that she had no intention of aborting but was there for an ultrasound. We know that some of Dr. Goyal’s clinics are listed on the Blue Cross/ Blue Shield website and we are wondering if that is how Paola came to Wood Dale. Despite my urging to find a safe place for her and her baby, Paola went into the clinic, but not without a pair of pink booties and information about the nearby crisis pregnancy center, Care Net (www.carenetdupage.com/). Keep this family in your prayers. Pray for These Wood Dale Employees - Nancy: Office manager and post-abortive woman - Dr. Goyal: owner and operator of Wood Dale and 3 other suburban and 1 Chicago abortion mill - *Marisela: Listed as “Medical Records,” She has been sarcastic to us in the past, often sent out to bring unsure women back in. - *Lisette: “Health Educator,” sister of Samantha. We are not sure if Lisette will be quitting too! - Eugene: Orderly/POC. We believe POC stands for “Product of Conception,” which is how abortion clinics refer to babies. This job may require him to reassemble the aborted babies’ precious bodies to make sure no parts were left inside the mother. * starred have a copy of the Abby Johnson letter. The word “awesome” gets tossed around and overused all the time, but when it comes to God and the truly awesome things He has done, there is no other word that even comes close to describing! We got confirmation today that Forest View Medical Center is closed – PERMANENTLY! The street sign and the sign on the building were both turned around yesterday, Monday, April 14. Every door sports a bright yellow sign stating, “Forest View Medical Center CLOSED.” When someone called the number on the sign, they were told that indeed Forest View was closed for good. Praise God! We don’t have all of the information yet, but we do know that God is awesome beyond all knowing. The timing is also awesome - to begin this Holiest of Weeks when we remember how God sent His only Son to suffer and die for us. The closing of this place of death serves as a tangible reminder of Jesus’ victory over death and His unfailing goodness to those who are faithful (even throughout one of the coldest, longest winters on record!). Yes, to God alone be the glory. Let His praises be ever on our lips! God relied on each of you to be His hands and feet, so there are many people who share in this joyful day: - If you ever stood with us on a Thursday for vigil, shout for joy. - If you walked in one of our Marches for Life in Palatine, give thanks! - If you joined us for our Jericho March where we prayed for the permanent closure of Forest View not quite one year ago on May 4, 2013, blow a trumpet! - Even if all you did was read our email updates and send up prayers, praise God! This week we have all have been given a pat on the back from our Father and a surge from the Spirit to keep fighting for LIFE! So, what now? - - We will not be at Forest View this Thursday, but we will be there on Friday for the Way of the Cross prayer service. Here’s a map to get there: http://northwestfamiliesforlife.weebly.com/vigil-schedule.html . Parking in the Forest View lot shouldn’t be a problem, but just in case, you can park in the connecting lot in front of the 2720 River Rd. building (white with columns). - - We will now turn our attention to another one of abortionist Dr. Goyal’s 5 remaining clinics: Advantage in Wood Dale. - - We are not yet sure if our vigil schedule will stay the same but will keep you posted. - - One thing that is for sure is that we will not stop until all women are protected and all children are safe in their mothers’ wombs. Yes, we WILL STILL be hosting a special Way of the Cross prayer service this Good Friday at Forest View. We would love to gather our NorthWest Families for Life family together one last time at Forest View, so please join us! It will be a most special time of remembering the many victims of abortion, while offering thanksgiving that no more women, children, or men will have to suffer there ever again. Looking for another location for a Good Friday Service? #4-7 are four of the remaining five of Dr. Goyal’s clinics. 1. Aurora: Planned Parenthood, New York Street and Oakhurst Drive, 10:00 a.m. 2. Chicago: Albany Medical/Surgical Center, 5086 N. Elston Ave, 5:00 p.m. (preceded by the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 4:30 p.m.) 3.
