“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23: 1-4)
In the last update we looked at four of the seven promises held in this well-known Scripture passage. Now let’s see what God offers to us in the last three promises: 5. “He guides me in the paths of righteousness.” At times the world can look like a moral wasteland and following your conscience seems near impossible when compared to the ease of following the crowd. Yet, when we listen to the still, small voice of God, He will not only lead us on the right path, the righteous path, but also give us the strength to follow. We just have to go to Him first in prayer with our decisions, big and small. Instead of following the crowd, let Him lead you in His path which we know always leads to more joy. 6. “I fear no evil, for You are with me.” This is one of my favorite promises, especially when praying outside of the abortion clinics. This promise is made more than 90 times throughout the Bible! God must really want us to get the message that He is always with us, so we do not need to fear! Fear paralyzes. Fear robs you of your joy. Fear is at the root of most abortions. Fear of the unknown. Fear of what others will think or say. Fear that we’re not good enough, strong enough, or have enough money for a baby. When we pray and counsel at a clinic, that fear is one of the first things we need to dispel. Let people know that you understand their fear, but that you are with them, standing there as a visible sign that God is with them too. 7. “Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” This promise had me a little confused at first because thoughts of a rod or staff conjure up images of punishment for me. You know, “Spare the rod, spoil the child”? However, that is not the type of rod our heavenly Father is talking about here. It is the rod and staff of great strength which He holds out to us to grab on to in times of worry, fear, sadness, and despair. He will pull us up and hold us tight in His comforting arms. This last verse brings the whole passage to completion by letting us know that God gives us a share of His great power and can accomplish all things with us – even an end to abortion! Special Good Friday Vigil at Forest View Friday, April 18, 10:00 – 11:00 am – Deacon Larry Schumacher will lead the Way of the Cross outside Forest View (2750 S. River Rd, Des Plaines). This is a special service created by the Pro-Life Action League to remember all of the victims of abortion – the women, men, and children. Last year we had a great crowd of over 50 people. Let’s double that this year! You can park in the lot in front of the building with white columns at 2720 S. River Rd. Its parking lot connects to Forest View’s lot. Print out the attached flier to post at your church. Click here for a map: http://northwestfamiliesforlife.weebly.com/forest-view-map.html Exciting News: Mobile Ultra-Sound coming to Forest View Valiant Woman, a brand new mobile ultra-sound van will be parked nearby with a counselor and a sonographer inside ready to give women their first glimpse of their child. Please pray for the success of this new endeavor. If you are a sidewalk counselor, we could really use some extra coverage for the 7:00 – 8:00 am hour on Thursday mornings to help get clients to the mobile ultrasound. Let us know. Thank you! VIGIL OPPORTUNITIES FOR THIS WEEK Please see attached vigil schedule for days of the week and times when faithful people will be praying outside of Chicago-land abortion facilities. This is the last week of 40 Days for Life. Check the websites for closing rally information: www.40daysforlife.com News from the last threeThursdays’ Forest View vigils: ** On Thursday, March 20, we estimate that FOUR children were killed at Forest View Medical Center. ** Although none would stop to talk on their way into the clinic, two of the women stopped after their abortions to take a Project Rachel brochure. One was a young girl in her 20’s. She was crying. The other was a black woman in her late 20’s or early 30’s. She seemed very sedated and I worry about her physical health. Despite the pro-abort claim that abortion is safer than childbirth and despite the media’s unwillingness to report on women dying at the clinics, we pro-lifers know that abortion is very dangerous to women. One of the latest known abortion-related injuries occurred in Boston in March at a Planned Parenthood. Read about it here: http://www.lifenews.com/2014/04/07/woman-unresponsive-after-botched-abortion-at-boston-planned-parenthood/ . **Here is a report from a sidewalk counselor at abortionist Dr. Goyal’s Hinsdale clinic of another woman harmed physically during an abortion: “Tanisha said she had already had an abortion at the Access Health Center in Downers Grove and it was not done right. She said she had been injured and then she showed me a picture of what came out if her. It was a bloody mess of torn up tissue that was her baby. I think she said she was about 14 weeks along at the time of the abortion so the baby was fully formed, but in the picture it was clear they had shredded the baby. So very sad. She looked so wounded and pale. I gave her information about healing after an abortion and legal rights along with the rest of the information. She said she had a lawyer and was thinking of suing them if she didn't get the right answers from them. She had called them to complain and they sent her to this clinic this morning. I told her she needs to go see a legitimate doctor for her health and not to trust anything they tell her. I gave her my number and told her to call me if I could help and that the crisis pregnancy centers would also help her. We don't just care about the baby but the women too, and the men. She seemed angry but so weak that she could barley show it.” Please pray for Tanisha. ** On Thursday, March 27 we estimate that SEVEN women chose to end the life of their own child. ** One woman named Ulzii was at Forest View alone seeking information. She stopped to talk to me after leaving the clinic. She had not yet decided what she would do. Ulzii told me she had no boyfriend and was scared and alone. I told her she was not alone! We are here for her and the Women’s Center would be with her every step of the way. I gave her a brochure about the Women’s Center and then we prayed together. As she was just about to drive off, I got a feeling and shouted out, “It’s a boy!” She smiled as she drove off. Please pray that Ulzii will find the courage and support to give this little boy life. ** On Thursday, April 3, we estimate that FOUR babies died at the hands of “doctor.” **Some people believe that it’s mostly teens who seek abortions, and that day we did see a father bring his teen daughter for an abortion. However, the other three were a young woman in her 20’s who came alone in a taxi, another woman in her 20’s who came with a man, and a married couple in their 30’s. And this is pretty typical of our Thursday vigils. Abortion is not just a teen – pregnancy issue. In fact, 83% of abortions are for women 20 and over. Pray for These Forest View Employees - Nancy: Office manager and post-abortive woman - Dr. Goyal: owner and operator of Forest View and 4 other suburban and 1 Chicago abortion mill - Samantha: Was “just answering phones” as a way to make money for culinary school 3 years ago when we first met her. Now she has quit school and appears to be thoroughly invested in the business of abortion. Listed as a “Health Educator.” - *Carmen: New employee, cashier, Catholic. Has Women's Center and Project Rachel cards to give to women inside the clinic. Pray she will be inspired by the Spirit to hand them out. - *Marisela: Listed as “Medical Records,” She has been sarcastic to us in the past, often sent out to bring unsure women back in. - *Lisette: New employee as a “Health Educator,” sister of Samantha. * starred have a copy of the Abby Johnson letter.
This is one of the most well-known Scripture passages and, yet, have you ever taken it piece by piece and really thought about what it means? The promises it holds? The images it creates? It seems to me that there are actually seven promises included in this passage: 1. “I shall not want.” When we think of this, we have to be careful to look at “want” vs. “need.” The verse does not promise to provide for our every need. However, it clearly explains that if you accept that God is in charge you will be free from the nagging “wants” that can distract us, like “wanting” wealth, new clothes, car, popularity, more time in the day, etc. We can rest in the idea that God has got me where He “wants” me. 2. “He makes me lie down in green pastures.” This is one of my favorite images in this passage. Who doesn’t like the idea of lying in the cool, green grass relaxing? God can be this type of an oasis in your day. Sometimes it can be hard to carve out time to pray, but maybe instead of traditional prayer, take some time to just imagine God asking you to lie down in green pastures to rest, focus on Him, and soak up His goodness. Is God trying to “make” you lie down in peace right now? 3. “He leads me beside quiet waters.” Water is a source of life. So we can imagine God offering not only rest but also rejuvenation and refreshment. Look for where he is leading you to find that refreshment, in a prayer vigil, a Bible study, at the side of a friend in need. Take His lead. 4. “He restores my soul.” Why would a soul need to be restored? Sin. Sin is the scourge of the soul. Sin damages our souls. But God promises that He will indeed “restore” our soul, fill it with the shining light of the Holy Spirit when we come to Him with sorrow and repentance to seek His forgiveness. There is no sin too great, even the sin of abortion, which God will not forgive. The last three promises in the next update! UPDATE on SPECIAL PRAYER INTENTION The kidney transplant two weeks ago was a complete success! Maria and our dad Frank are both doing well. Maria even feels good enough to return to vigil this week! Thank you for all of the prayers for our family. We felt the Lord’s love and support flowing through you every step of the way. VIGIL OPPORTUNITIES FOR THIS WEEK Please the vigil schedule page for days of the week and times when faithful people will be praying outside of Chicago-land abortion facilities. Be especially aware that every day during the Lent 40 Days for Life (Saturdays and Sundays too!) you can join a vigil in Downers Grove, Aurora, and Wood Dale. News from the last two Thursdays’ Forest View vigils: ** On Thursday, March 6, we estimate that TWO babies died at Forest View Medical Center. ** Our counselor Dawn called out to two women on their way into the clinic and they came over to talk to her and were interested in the Women’s Center. However, as Dawn began walking with them towards the Women’s Center, one of them burst into tears sobbing telling Dawn that it was too late. She was only coming to Forest View today for a follow up appointment after her abortion. The woman said, “I wish you were here on that Saturday.” Dawn gave her a Project Rachel and invited her to come pray with us to help others. ** Some people have shown interest in being part of a Saturday vigil at Forest View. We will be contacting you soon if you responded because from the previous story we can so clearly see that God is calling us to minister on Saturdays. If you would like to be included in a meeting about Saturday vigils, please reply to this email. ** On Thursday, March 13, we estimate that NINE women succumbed to the lie that abortion is the only solution to their “problem” of pregnancy. ** One couple chose LIFE! Kaelynn (20ish) and Dominic (27) arrived at 7:45 am for an abortion. Dawn was there to greet them and let them know that it was not a safe place for them. Kaelynn told Dawn that Dominic did not want the abortion, but she didn’t feel financially ready for a baby. Dawn told her about all the help available and gently offered the option of adoption. Dominic was reluctant to go with them to the Women’s Center, but when Dawn called out, “We’re going to save your baby’s life!” he saw the light and joined them. After meeting with the WC counselor, they left smiling and kept hugging and thanking Dawn. Dawn said that the relief on Kaelynn’s face was unmistakable. Please pray for this young couple as they discern their options for this child. Praise God! For gracious and merciful is He.” (Joel 2:13) Tomorrow is the first day of Lent. Are you ready? I’m not! It always makes me a little anxious as I consider what I will do, how I will encourage my children, when I can fit in more prayer, and on and on. Thankfully, as I read from “The Word Among Us” magazine, I got a new perspective for looking at Lent.
They write, “The last thing anyone wants to do is reduce this season of grace to a to-do list. Your heavenly Father is ‘gracious and merciful.’ He is calling out to you so He can bless you. Our works during Lent are meant to arise from a heart that wants to know a deeper freedom from sin and fear – a heart that is looking to God for more of His love. We don’t do them to prove ourselves to God or convince him to bless us. We do them because they can help us feel the presence of God. We do them because they can change our hearts and make us more like Jesus.” So take a deep breath, soften your heart, and keep it open to the Lord this Lent. He will use whatever effort you make over these next 40 days, no matter how small, for your good and the good of others. Need some ideas of ways to “return to the Lord”? Here are a few: 1. 40 Days for Life begins TOMORROW! – There are four aspects of this worldwide campaign to end abortion: prayer, fasting, peaceful vigil, and community outreach. See “Upcoming Events” below to find out more about this mission which has had amazing results in converting abortion workers, closing abortion mills, and saving babies. Vigil locations are in Downers Grove, Aurora, and, for the first time ever, in Wood Dale (Kick-off Rally tonight, Tuesday, at 6:00 pm, 203 E. Irving Park Rd). Please pledge to spend at least one hour this Lent at the location closest to you. It can be very hard for the site organizers to make sure that a vigil is manned every vigil hour of every day for all 40 days. Each location is run by a courageous local volunteer, NOT a member of the 40 Days for Life staff. So please help these faithful organizers by signing up today at www.40daysforlife.com . Click on “Locations.” 2. Life Advocacy Day in Springfield, March 26– Visit your state Congressmen in person and make an impact! You will be provided with all the background to speak with authority on the issues. See below for details. 3. See the “41 Ways to be Pro-Life” document under the tab "41 Ways to be Pro-Life" Choose one thing that you will do this Lent to promote LIFE. 4. Vote in the primary on Tuesday, March 18 for solidly pro-life politicians. The primary is so important! Choose who you want to vote for in November TODAY; otherwise, on election day in November, you may end up having to choose between the lesser of two evils. Go to http://illinoisfamily.org/actions/voter-guides/ to see a voters guide that shows where the candidates stand on key issues, like same-sex marriage, rights of conscience, pain-capable unborn child protection act, parental rights, and more. SPECIAL PRAYER INTENTION Maria and Laura’s father Frank is in kidney failure and will be undergoing kidney transplant surgery this Friday, March 7. Maria will be donating her kidney for him. We ask for prayer for healing and full recovery for Frank and Maria, but also prayers for our entire family, especially Laura and our mom, who will be called upon for much support. Thank you so much! VIGIL OPPORTUNITIES FOR THIS WEEK Please see the vigil schedule (under the tab "Vigil Schedule") for days of the week and times when faithful people will be praying outside of Chicago-land abortion facilities. Be especially aware that every day during the Lent 40 Days for Life (Saturdays and Sundays too!) you can join a vigil in Downers Grove, Aurora, and Wood Dale. News from the last two Thursdays’ Forest View vigils: ** On Thursday, February 20, we estimate that EIGHT children died at the hands of a “doctor.” ** We were sad to see this high number of deaths, the highest we’ve seen at Forest View on a Thursday since early last November. However, even on days like these when it seems that our presence is fruitless, we can see that our presence has indeed borne fruit when we look at the many Forest View employees who have quit. We recently received a copy of the renewal documents for Forest View from a wonderful woman, Jean, who helps at the Pro-Life Action League. From these documents, it is clear that many of the workers have left the deadly business of abortion. Some of these we knew by name, like Ramesh, Amber, and Brenda (see below!). Others we only knew by face. But still we rejoice and pray that it was through the intervention of God that their hearts were touched and they sought a new life-affirming career. For more evidence that Dr. Goyal’s abortion empire (He owns 6 mills in Illinois) is crumbling, read this interesting article by John Jansen: http://prolifeaction.org/hotline/2014/goyalmailing/#more-36801 There is also a link in the article where you can see the renewal documents with lists of employees names. It is very helpful if you pray at a one of Goyal’s clinics so you can reach out with love (and by name) to the employees. ** On Thursday, February 27, we estimate that again FIVE women chose death for their unborn child. ** One of our 7:00 am counselors, Dawn, was able to speak to the friend of one of the women. The friend told Dawn that she was there to be supportive. Dawn explained to her that the best way to support her friend would be to get her out of the abortion mill. Dawn told her about the devastating mental and physical effects abortion has on women. Read more about the traumatic effects here: http://bloodmoneyfilm.com/blog/post-abortion-after-effects . Sadly, the friend could not break free from the bonds that kept her quiet, silently witnessing to the death of a child. Not listed as an employee! - Brenda: She is no longer listed as an employee at Forest View! Praise God! - *Marisela: She has been sarcastic to us in the past, often sent out to bring unsure women back in. - *Lisette: New employee, beautiful young woman whom we spoke to for the first time this week. * starred have a copy of the Abby Johnson letter. Say to the cities of Judah, ‘Here is your God!’” Isaiah 40:9 We pro-lifers are bearers of good news. We mightily lift up the good news that life is a gift from God. And there is more good news to share! God can be seen at work through many wonderful pro-life groups. “Operation Rescue”(www.operationrescue.org) recently reported that at one point there were over 2000 abortion mills in America. That number has dwindled to 581 thanks to the efforts of pro-life people like founder Troy Newman and you! Troy’s goal is to close down every mill through whistle-blowing and truth-telling. “And Then There Were None,” former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson’s ministry, helped 90 workers leave the deadly abortion industry in just 17 months! www.attwn.org Abby’s idea is that if you can reach the workers with care and compassion, the clinics will be forced to close with no staff. (We believe in this too! Please see our abortion employee prayer list after the vigil news section.) And let’s not forget our own hometown heroes at the Pro-Life Action League (www.prolifeaction.org). The Scheidlers and their staff are a constant source of good news as they educate and encourage pro-life activism of all kinds. www.prolifeaction.org/activism.php Let us pray for these brave people and their ministries. And then “get yourself up on a high mountain” to lift up your own voice to share the good news, “Here is your God!”
We added more than 70 pictures to our website from the January NorthWest Families March for Life in Palatine Can you find your smiling face among the 700 in the scenes? News from the last three Forest View vigils: ** On Thursday, February 6, we estimate that FIVE children lost their lives at Forest View. ** Our 7:00 am counselor Terry got to talk to an Asian man who brought a woman for an abortion. He told Terry that they “do not want to be here,” but it is “her choice.” This is a sad testament to the harm that abortion has done not only to women, but also to men who feel hopeless and helpless. They have been told the lie that they have no rights and don’t deserve to have any say in what happens to their own flesh and blood. Their rightful place as protector has been taken away. Thankfully, there is help available for the men who suffer too. One site is www.fatherhoodforever.org . ** On Thursday, February 13, we estimate that FOUR women made a “choice” they can never un-do. ** This day we met a new employee named Lizette. She was leaving with Samantha (one of the first employees we met when we first began our ministry almost 4 years ago) to pick up lunch. She stopped at the exit and rolled down her window to chat. I introduced myself and hope that in the future I will be able to build on this first meeting to give her a copy of the Abby Johnson letter to employees (see link below). One of the most important things a person can do when bearing witness outside of an abortion mill is to bring the light of Jesus to the employees by allowing them to see us as people who care about not just the babies, but them! However, we know that spring WILL come. This Scripture is part of God’s covenant with Noah after the Great Flood. Yes, while we are here on earth there will be cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, good and bad times, happy and sad. We know this to be true, but sometimes in the dark days it can feel like the light will never come. Two thoughts can help us through those times: 1. God is with you in your darkest times. Look for Him. Did you see the sun sparkling beautifully off of the new fallen snow this morning? His hand created the snowflakes, unique as every human. 2. After the darkness, there will be light. Change is the only constant in this life. In our battle for hearts and minds, we must always be in “seedtime” – planting the seeds of change by taking time to do something for Life (Need ideas? See the attached document for 41 big and little ways). Then trust in God and wait patiently for the time of rejoicing when we reap God’s harvest.
Speaking of reaping God’s harvest… Happy First Birthday Kylee Elise! One of the babies saved from abortion at Forest View turned 1 year old on January 15. I texted her beautiful mom, Kathy, a Happy Birthday message from all of us. Kathy is 18 now and planning to go back to school. Pray that she finds the right childcare for Klyee and has continued blessings in life. See the attached picture of this precious, joyful little girl who almost became a sad statistic. News from the last three Forest View vigils: ** On Thursday, January 16, we estimate that SIX children lost their lives at Forest View. ** People driving by must have been very impressed by your faithfulness to Life despite the cold, because so many drivers honked and waved. Some even stopped to thank us for being there. This is one of the often forgotten reasons to stand vigil. When you are praying outside of an abortion clinic, you are a light of hope for all of the people who drive by too. Through your public witness, you are keeping the plight of the unborn on people’s minds and hearts. ** On Thursday, January 23, we estimate that FIVE women made a “choice” they can never un-do. ** However, one woman chose to come with us to the Women’s Center! We called out to two women and one man as they entered Forest View after the abortionist had already left. They did not respond by looked our way. They came out fairly quickly and came right over to us. They were looking to get an ultrasound but for some reason Forest View said they could not accommodate them. They were thrilled to hear that they could receive a free ultrasound at the Women’s Center that day! I brought them up to the Women’s Center to make their appointment. The mother’s name is Anho. Thank God for this life and for all who work tirelessly at the Women’s Center to save lives. ** On Thursday, January 30, we estimate that TWO babies were killed by a man calling himself a “doctor.” ** If you drive by the vigil at Forest View tomorrow (Thursday) and don’t see us right away, just pull into the 2720 River Rd. building parking lot and you will find us praying in our car. We take frequent breaks to stay warm but it is so very important that we maintain a presence, so that the employees see our faithfulness to them. We believe that God is at work with many of the employees.
